SPIN Integrates Qube! for Render Pipeline

Vancouver-based visual effects studio leverages Python API (April 12, 2007)
DMN Newswire--2007-4-12--Honolulu, HI April 12, 2007 PipelineFX, makers of Qube! software, the leading render farm management software for film production, game development, and digital media education around the world, today announced that SPIN West VFX in Vancouver, B.C. and SPIN Toronto have deployed Qube! to manage their render pipeline and have integrated Qube! into their new asset management system.

SPIN is an award-winning creative boutique that specializes in producing visual fx, motion design, animation and matte paintings for the feature film, commercial, television and broadcast markets with offices in Toronto, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and Atlanta.

"Qube! has proven invaluable in our rendering pipeline at SPIN West, said John Burk, Pipeline Supervisor.  ?We've been able to leverage the flexibility of the Python API and design our own custom job types for MayaMan ribgen and rendering on PRMan-compliant renderers.  Essentially, we've been able to get it to do whatever we need, regardless of how complex or deep the dependency tree gets.  The support team at PipelineFX has been great.  Response times to emails are usually less than an hour, and it's rare that I don't have a solution within six hours."

Qube! was built on the concept of open APIs and cross-platform support, allowing integration into any CG pipeline from a small post facility using only a few applications to the largest film studios using many applications, multiple versions of those same applications and running them on multiple platforms. PipelineFX uses the same APIs provided to customers to develop the software and the included ?job types, which are custom job submission interfaces.

"Tailoring your render management system to your preferred workflow - and not the other way around - is the right way to do it," said Troy Brooks, CEO of PipelineFX. "SPIN has really leveraged our open APIs to rapidly deploy an elegant pipeline."

Qube! 5.1 is the latest release and is available now as a Universal application release for Intel- and PowerPC-based Macintosh computers, as well as on the Microsoft Windows® and Red Hat®, SUSE® and Fedora Linux® platforms.
