SOYO Announces Intel Pentium 4 DRAGON Ultra Motherboard

SOYO Computer, Inc. will announce at Fall COMDEX next week an Intel Pentium 4 Socket 478 mainboard that maximizes P4 performance, offers full Intel compatibility, can be easily custom-configured, and provides the cost saving advantage of the SiS645/961 chipset with DDR333 memory support.

SOYO's SY-P4S DRAGON Ultra with its SiS645/961 chipset is the first P4 chipset to support high-speed DDR333 memory modules up to 3GBs (DDR 200/266 is also supported).

The DRAGON Ultra enhances system bus performance up to 46% by increasing the FSB speed from the typical 133MHz to 400MHz. The companion south bridge, SiS961 chip integrates various multimedia functions, such as an onboard audio subsystem with CMI 8736 6-channel audio chip and gold-plated coaxial and optical SPDIF outputs,10/100 MB Ethernet controller, Home PNA 2.0, ATA100/66/33 standard Ultra DMA IDE interface, 6 32-bit bus mastering PCI slots, and support for 10 high-speed USB 1.1/2.0 storage devices and peripherals. SOYO has also embedded a HiPoint IDE-RAID chip on the board to provide ATA133 IDE RAID Levels 0 (data striping), Level 1 (disk mirroring) or Levels 0+1.

Combined with its AGP Pro 1X/2X/4X capability and Fast Write Transactions, the DRAGON Ultra offers a dedicated, high-speed port for the movement of large blocks of 3D texture data between the PC's graphics controller and system memory. SiS' proprietary MuTIOL (Multi-Threaded I/O Link) technology provides peak bandwidth up to 553MB/s between the north and south bridge. It also delivers 1.2GB bandwidth to connect embedded DMA Master devices and external PCI masters. This makes SOYO's DRAGON Ultra an excellent board for real-time video editing, digital content creation, 3-D graphics processing, commercial 3-D modeling, CAD/workstation applications, image compression, speech recognition, gaming, and a variety of mainstream applications.

The DRAGON Ultra ensures multiple upstream and downstream date transfers with SiS' integrated, multi-threaded I/O link. Support is included for the DRAGON Ultra's two RS-232 serial ports (16550 UART compatible); one parallel printer port (SPP/EPP/ECP mode); one FDD port (supports 3 mode, 1.2/1.44/2.88 MB FDD), IrDA/FIR ports with optional cable for transceiver, and four USB 2.0 ports. The DRAGON features 6 onboard USB standard ports (2 rear, 4 front) and includes a "sigma box" and cable which occupies a standard 3.5-inch drive bay for easily connecting 4 additional high-speed USB 2.0 devices to the front of the system being built.

The SY-P4ISR also features Ultra DMA IDE ports, which support four independent channels to accommodate eight IDE devices, including two for RAID. The board also includes a connector for Smart Card readers.

SOYO has integrated many enhanced overclocking, system management, and security features into the SY-P4S DRAGON Ultra motherboard. Users can customize their boards to specific applications by adjusting the CPU FSB, core voltage & multiplier, AGP Pro voltage and DDR SDRAM voltage via the Award PCI BIOS setup. The FSB can be set in 1Mhz increments through the BIOS setup.

Support is also included for on-board hardware monitoring, and includes SOYO's Hardware Health Utility to streamline PC system management. Among the many hardware monitoring functions are CPU fan speed and temperature monitoring; WOL (Wake On LAN) function to simplify network management; software power-off controls and remote and/or alarm power-on control.
