SMC And IP3 To Provide HotSpot Internet Access SolutionSimplifies set-up of revenue-generating wireless public Internet access (June 22, 2004)
SMC Networks (www.smc.com), leading provider of networking solutions for the SMB/e, the ISP and all the way home, today announced that its is teaming with IP3 Networks to provide complete solutions for building wireless hotspots.
"It's been a challenge for those in the hospitality business and the technology resellers who work with them to assemble the full complement of hardware and software to deploy public Internet access systems successfully," said Tom Rizol, SMC's General Manager, North America. "Working together, SMC and IP3 have assembled full solutions that handle the 'soup to nuts' Internet access challenge. From Broadband access to distribution; and from customer order to customer payment, our combined technology brings it all, and with the security that is critical to success."
For wireless HotSpot applications, SMC's EliteConnect Universal Wireless Access Point (SMC2555W-AG) is a perfect anchor. Universal wireless capability means that it can provide secure, high performance access to any wireless user up to 64 at a time regardless of whether their computer supports 802.11a, b or g wireless. IP3 Networks' NetAccess makes that connection easy for the end-user by eliminating the need to reconfigure IP settings; and for the business, as it automatically authenticates, authorizes, tracks, and bills users for their network access. And, where obstacles and distance are an issue, SMC has antennas that take care of that, too, including the CeilingBox 2.4 GHz High-Gain Wireless Antenna and many more.
In addition to HotSpot solutions, SMC has solutions for providing high-speed Internet access to hotel rooms over existing telephone wire. In a hotel application, like in-room hotel high speed Internet, distributing Broadband over existing telephone wire is an economical and easy to implement option. SMC's Extended Ethernet technology does just that, with its combination of CPE's, splitters and switches that distribute connections at up to 15Mbps speed to distances of up to 5000 feet.
SMC will be demonstrating the SMC/IP3 solutions for HotSpot applications, as well as SMC's Extended Ethernet and other solutions for the Hospitality market June 22-24 at HITEC, booth #350. In addition, SMC will hold a press conference at the event on Wednesday, June 23rd, at 11:00 in the HITEC Press Room.
