SMART Launches SMART Board 4000iNew rear projection interactive whiteboard offers superior image quality (June 08, 2004)
SMART Technologies Inc. announces the launch of its Rear Projection SMART Board 4000i interactive whiteboard, a touch-sensitive display that delivers the highest resolution in a rear-projection interactive whiteboard with integrated projector. The 4000i display is powered by an integrated SXGA+ projector, which boasts a resolution of 1400 x 1050 (4:3 aspect ratio) and a contrast ratio of 1100:1. With a 2500-lumen projector and a 7,000-hour lamp to assure reliable operation, the 4000i is an ideal solution for command-and-control, simulation, research, design and broadcast applications.
The 4000i features a shadow-free 66" (168-cm) display housed in a slim, mobile cabinet that fits easily into available space. Integrated projector controls are accessed from the front of the unit to make start up and operation simple and convenient. Users operate computer applications and access files and the Internet simply by touching the display with their finger. No special tools are required to write over applications in digital ink, and then edit, save, print or post notes online for future reference.
"The 4000i was developed in response to the increasing number of specialized, information-rich software applications that require high resolution for adequate display," says Nancy Knowlton, president and co-CEO of SMART. "It combines the latest in interactive functionality with superb image clarity for engineers, scientists, researchers and others who use highly detailed digital information in collaborative settings."
"The SMART Board interactive whiteboard is an excellent complement to our Integrated Maintenance Training System (IMTS)," says Phil Benson, IMTS program manager at Atlantis Systems International, a globally recognized developer of simulation-based aircraft training systems, with a client base that spans defense forces and government agencies throughout the world, as well as major commercial airlines and aircrew training centers. "The high resolution display and large format provided by the new 4000i make it a perfect medium for instructor presentation and student interaction with the simulated systems and components."
Other Features Touch System: DviT (Digital Vision Touch) technology, developed by SMART (patents pending), uses cameras in the corners of the screen to track touch. Users can use their finger as a mouse and write on the screen without any special tools.
SMART Board Software: Users can write over top of any computer application, write and edit notes, and save everything in a single file. The numerous features of SMART Board software include Notebook software, which captures annotations and saves notes, SMART Recorder (Microsoft Windows operating systems only), which saves audio and data for playback as a synchronized file, and SMART Video Player, which enables users to write over top of moving or still video.
Audio System: Stereo-amplified speakers and volume controls are on the front of the cabinet.
Laptop Support: Shelf and connection cables attach to either side of the cabinet.
X-Port 20 Switch: Serial, audio and video can be switched from the internal computer to a connected laptop.
Connection Panel: Peripherals can be connected, including a second projector, external audio system, network, printer or other serial device.
Wireless Keyboard and Holder: Standard Microsoft Windows operating system keyboard with built-in trackball is included.
