SMART Launches OS X Version of SMART Board SoftwareLatest software gives Mac users feature-rich interactive whiteboard (June 11, 2004)
SMART Technologies Inc. announces the release of SMART Board 8.1.2 software for Mac OS X operating system software. Version 8.1.2 adds new features that Macintosh computer users have requested for their SMART Board interactive whiteboards and Sympodium interactive lecterns. Version 8.1.2 converts handwriting to text, making it possible to save on-screen notes as text, and the new, intuitive drag-and-drop feature can be used to move text and objects between pages created in Notebook whiteboarding software, an application within SMART Board software, or into other applications.
SMART Board software was the first software of its kind to offer cross-platform compatibility with Mac OS operating system software and Windows, UNIX and Linux operating systems. SMART's commitment to Mac computer users continues with version 8.1.2. Notebook software, the heart of every version of SMART Board software, features an XML-based, cross-platform file format (.XBK), which means Notebook files created on one operating system can be accessed on another. This flexibility is especially useful to educators who use both Macintosh and Windows-based computers. SMART Board software also continues to offer a consistent interface between the two platforms. More than 1,500 new templates and clip-art images are also now available.
"SMART has been listening to Macintosh computer users about what features and functionality would enable them to use their SMART Board interactive whiteboards effectively," says Nancy Knowlton, president and co-CEO of SMART. "This new version of SMART Board software leverages the rich capabilities of Macintosh computers to provide users with features that help make their work more collaborative and dynamic."
