SGI Ships SCSI Array

Entry-level model comes in around $6,000 By Dave Nagel
SGI today introduced the Total Performance 900 storage system. SGI bills the SCSI-based TP900 as a "high-performance entry-level" disk array targeted for a broad range of applications, including digital content management and media streaming. The base configuration starts around $6,000.

The TP900 supports eight low-profile, 73 GB SCSI drives for up to 584GB of storage. It uses Ultra160 SCSI technology with an internal peak throughput of 320 MB per second and can be combined with another TP900 for up to 1.1 TB of storage. It uses either 10,000 RPM or 15,000 RPM mechanisms, depending on the configuration.

SGI offers two other models in its Total Performance line, including the TP9100 and the TP9400. The latter model offers storage up to 7.3 TB.

The TP900 is available now for less than $6,000 in its base configuration. For more information, visit
