SCAD Integrates Sapphire Plug-ins Into Curriculum

Savannah College of Art and Design to train 2,000 students a year (May 17, 2005)

GenArts, Inc., a leading provider of digital visual effects plug-ins for the film, broadcast and video industry, today announced that the renowned Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) has chosen Sapphire Plug-ins as its primary plug-in package, and is integrating them into all the editing and effects workstations of its digital media departments.

2,000 students a year receive training in the SCAD School of Film & Digital Medias state-of-the-art teaching facilities, which feature best-in-breed editing and compositing systems. To bolster its curriculum and ensure that its students are exposed to the best possible tools available, SCAD is including Sapphire Plug-ins on a wide array of 118 systems, including: Discreet Flame; Avid Symphony, Media Composer, DS, Xpress DV and Xpress Pro; Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro; and Apple Final Cut Pro and Shake. These systems are available in SCAD's digital media departments, including broadcast design and motion graphics, and film and television.

Mark Thomasson, SCADs Director of Digital Media Technology for the School of Film & Digital Media, explains: ?We make it our mission at the college not only to give our students the best fine arts education, but also to give them hands-on experience with real world tools, so that by the time they leave the college they are ready to become successful digital artists. We chose Sapphire Plug-ins because they have truly become an industry standard. They are easy to learn and easy to use, and they are a natural extension of the editing and compositing systems they are designed to work with.

"I will use the Sapphire Plug-ins for my digital compositing and broadcast design classes on different platforms, including Shake, Flame, After Effects and Final Cut Pro. Sapphire Plug-ins offer a variety of user-friendly filters, like EdgeRays, Glints and Glows, which are essential for cutting-edge motion graphics work and visual effects. Students will incorporate these plug-ins into their final projects once they master the compositing basics. The plug-ins will help students in creating complex graphics and distinct design," comments Rolf Pilarsky, Professor of Broadcast Design at Savannah College of Art and Design.
