Road Productions Purchases Holland’s First D1 LivesDutch sound rental company selects DiGiCo D1 console for live productions (November 19, 2004)
Sander Krouwel, Road Productions’ owner/engineer, is the proud owner of Holland’s’ first two D1 Live consoles. After a short introduction at PLASA and extensive training and demos at TM Audio Seminars, Sander decided that the D1 would be perfect for Road’s operation.
Road Productions is a sound rental company based in central Holland whose core markets are corporate events, theatre shows, one-offs events and touring. Road’s decision to purchase DiGiCo consoles was influenced by the worldwide acceptance of the D5 Live and the knowledge that major international touring companies working with artists such as Robbie Williams, Anastacia, Rod Stewart and Justin Timberlake use their consoles.
Sander had been on the lookout for a digital solution some time, and found that DiGiCo’s products were the first to improve on the performance of his analogue desks. “The D1 is a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” says Sander. “A 64-channel mixer with unparalleled sound quality, it’s the first digital console with transparency, clarity and warmth that, until now, could only be found in top-end analogue consoles.”
The configuration consists of two D1 surfaces, three DiGiRacks and MADI cabling, enabling him to perform a complete concert setup with FOH and Monitors. Thanks to this setup, the consoles can also be used simultaneously on different productions. All racks are equipped with MADI, AES/EBU, XLR and LK multipin37, making them compatible with any system.
“Demand for smaller yet more powerful equipment made the D1 the perfect choice,” adds Sander, whose Series Five and SM20 consoles are now no longer in use. “In the area where there used to be one big FOH console, we can now put two D1’s including all processing. The space saving with these consoles is a real advantage and there’s absolutely no compromise on performance.”
DiGiCo (UK) Limited brings together the design and development skills that have helped create some of the world's most popular, successful and ground breaking live sound consoles, with the digital engineering expertise and manufacturing resources of Soundtracs.
The company was formed in 2002 to develop the D5 Live digital mixing system, a revolutionary approach to both the live sound console and the way it interfaces with both ends of the audio chain. In basing a console around a powerful DSP engine using proven Soundtracs hardware and software, but with features dedicated to live sound mixing, DiGiCo created the world's first truly open-ended console system, for which additional features will be made available in new software versions.
