Rhomobile Announces Mobile Application Development Challenge for RhodesThe Open Source Rhodes Mobile Application Framework Provides the Ability to Write Apps Once and Run on Multiple Mobile Platforms; The Rhodes App Challenge Offers a US$10,000 Prize to the Developer of the Winning Application (January 13, 2009)
CUPERTINO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/13/09 -- Rhomobile announces its Mobile Application Development Challenge. With the recent 0.2 release of Rhodes, an open source framework for mobilizing enterprise applications, it now supports all leading smartphone platforms. Developers are able to write their applications one time and run them natively on iPhone, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry and Symbian devices, with synced local data and taking advantage of device capabilities such as PIM data and GPS.
In a recent conversation Michael Morris, CEO of Carry the Day Inc., stated, "Rhodes allows me to get our mobile interface to Basecamp, TrailGuide, working on all major smartphones, beyond only Windows Mobile which we support today. Writing the app in Ruby and HTML is so much easier than writing it in C# or Objective-C. Rhodes latest release allows us to integrate with the device's contact information which opens even more exciting capabilities." This excitement and enthusiasm continues to build for the Rhodes framework.
The Mobile Application Development Challenge
The meteoric growth in smartphones device volume and diversity is one of the few bright spots in the technology industry recently. But developers trying to build mobile apps are stymied by the extreme difficulty of writing mobile apps for multiple device operating systems especially when there is no clear winner and diversity is just increasing. Rhodes solves this dilemma for mobile developers by letting them write once for all leading smartphones. And do it much more productively by writing most of the interface in HTML rather than Java, Objective-C, or C++.
The Rhodes Application Contest
Rhodes ships with several sample applications for sales (SugarCRM), field service (Siebel OnDemand) and issue tracking (Lighthouse). However, we want to see more samples that demonstrate the power of the framework, and the ease with which robust mobile enterprise applications can be built. Our developer community is generally working on proprietary applications under our commercial license. To spur more examples available as open source, we are holding an application development contest. First prize of $10,000 will be awarded to the individual or company building the best mobile application with Rhodes.
Requirements and Submission Guidelines: Rules and steps for application submission are available at http://rhomobile.com/contest. Applications must be submitted to Rhomobile by April 30, 2009. Prizes will be awarded on May 15, 2009.
Rhomobile Inc. (www.rhomobile.com), a privately held venture-backed company, provides the industry's first open source mobile framework. Our products include the Rhodes mobile application framework and the RhoSync web service synchronization solution.
