Research shows UK iPhone users are paying for twice the minutes they need.(March 15, 2012)
London (PRWEB UK) 15 March 2012
iPhone users are massively over-spending on their mobile phone bills in their quest to get their hands on the latest iPhones potentially wasting hundreds of pounds a year unnecessarily on their phone bills.
Research by Ofcom earlier this month showed that as many as 1.4 million mobile phone contract customers may have been affected by bill shock in the past six months and that consumers have low levels of awareness about how to protect themselves from unexpectedly high charges. Ofcom-accredited mobile comparison site Mobilife.com has analysed 9,453 customer bills and found that the average iPhone contract user pays for 662 minutes a month when most only need around 300 minutes
Alex Hurd, Head of Commercial Development at Mobilife.com, commented: iPhone users account for about 29% of the UK mobile market Source: Katatarworldpanel.com 20 February 2012 and virtually all of them could be wasting hundreds of pounds by not checking how many minutes they actually need before they get locked into a tariff with far too many minutes, often over a long period of time. Before they buy, people can use our Bill Analyser to check their actual usage - it only takes a few minutes to look at the whole UK market and the potential savings could be enormous.
Current data on mobilife.com (updated daily) shows that an iPhone 4s with no upfront cost starts at £30 a month with an allowance of 300 minutes. The best deal for a tariff of 600 minutes is £36 a month.
NOTE TO EDITORS
Mobilife analysed 9,453 bills from November 2011 January 2012 using all the UK networks.
Mobillife.coms research found that a tariff of 300 minutes per month, rather than 600 minutes, would be appropriate to the majority of iPhone users.
