Rescuers free man stuck overnight in Iowa caveRescuers dislodge man stuck overnight in cave at Iowa state park; woman freed earlier
Rescuers have freed a man trapped overnight in a cave at an Iowa state park.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources spokesman Kevin Baskins says 20-year-old Logan Eliasen, of Port Byron, Ill., was dislodged from a narrow part of Wye Cave at Maquoketa Caves State Park about 3:30 p.m. Saturday. He'd been stuck there more than 20 hours.
Baskins says Eliasen was given oxygen and an IV to prevent dehydration while trapped. He was taken from the scene to a hospital.
Park Ranger Scot Dykstra says visitors discovered two people lodged in the cave and alerted park staff. Dykstra said they became stuck while crawling through a narrow part of the cave.
Rescue crews freed the woman about 11:40 p.m. Saturday.
