VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 04/11/12 -- Republic Gallery presents 'Yellow Signal: New Media in China', featuring the works of acclaimed contemporary artists RongRong (China) and inri (Japan) and their exhibition of Caochangdi and Liulitun. RongRong and inri's works reflect the intimate world they have created together, while pushing the boundaries of traditional black-and-white darkroom techniques.

In 2007, RongRong and inri established the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre in the Caochangdi art district of Beijing. They also started the annual Three Shadows Photography Award to discover and encourage China's most promising young photographers. RongRong and inri's recent work brings attention to the beauty and value of new beginnings in their shared life and surroundings, especially amidst a rapidly changing world.

RongRong was born in 1968 in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, in China. In 1992, he studied photography at the Central Industrial Art Institute in Beijing, and in 1993, he moved to Beijing's East Village where he formally began his career as a contemporary photographer. He co- founded the magazine NEWPHOTO in 1996, which published its last edition in 1998. inri was born in 1973 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. She graduated in 1994 from the Nippon Photography Institute in Tokyo, a city in which she also worked as a photographer for the newspaper Asahi Shinbun.
