Remote Desktop Control Helps Overcome Mobility Challenges

Bomgar's Virtual Support Software Addresses Security, Integration and Mobile Device Concerns for CIOs and Technical Executives (September 17, 2008)

RIDGELAND, MS -- (Marketwire) -- 09/18/08 -- Current economic conditions, exacerbated by recent hurricanes, storms, floods, and sky-rocketing oil and gas prices, are contributing to an increasing number of IT workers wanting to telecommute. In fact, a recent survey showed that 37% want it bad enough to take a salary cut. But security and other technical concerns create significant challenges and more than half of corporate CIOs are reluctant to allow full-time telecommuting. Bomgar's remote desktop control software helps mitigate corporate data risk and may also help with other issues.

According to research conducted by Dice Holdings, Inc., a provider of specialized career websites and career fairs for select professional communities, 37% of the 1500 technology workers surveyed would take a 10% pay cut to be able to work from home. The cut represents an average of about $7,500 for each employee and could result in significant savings for corporations ready to take them up on it.

But the CIO Insight 2008 Mobility Survey indicated that 51% of CIOs and IT executives discourage full-time telecommuting, and 34% discourage part-time.

The reluctance stems from a variety of issues: Over 40% are concerned with the security of company data and systems, 31% are challenged by integrating mobile technologies and applications with existing systems, and 28% have issues with supporting different kinds of mobile devices.

Bomgar, makers of the only appliance-based remote desktop control software in the industry, may have solutions to all three problems -- at least in the technical support arena. Since the Bomgar appliance resides in the company's location under its already established security measures and no company data is routed through a third party vendor, data is not exposed. All connections are also protected with 256-bit AES SSL encryption, and logs and video recordings of all remote control sessions are readily available. Virtual support rep privileges and group policies are also under each company's granular control.

Bomgar remote desktop control software's open API, plug-ins, BMC® Remedy® Service Desk and LDAP, RADIUS, and Kerberos integration ease the integration process, and it can support Windows, Mac, Linux and Windows Mobile in several languages, even when devices are unattended.
