RemObjects Software Makes Relativity Server a Free-to-Use, Standalone Product(July 28, 2011)

Database administrators and developers may now freely use RemObjects Software's Relativity Server to build and publish data services in a secure manner, via OData. A royalty-free license makes it possible for database administrators and developers to freely download Relativity Server as a standalone product, and to deploy it on as many servers as needed.
Each Relativity server can publish data tables and commands from one or more database connections. It is able to connect to and work with data from a large variety of database types, such as Oracle, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, SQLite, or Sybase SQL Anywhere. If the database can be accessed using ADO.NET or ODBC, it can be published by Relativity Server.
It is easiest to configure Relativity Server using Server Explorer for Mac, which is available from the Mac App store or as part of RemObjects Softwares Data Abstract for Xcode. Relativity Server can also be configured directly via textual config files. Schema Modeler, included as part of Server Explorer for Mac, enables developers to quickly and easily select tables from any connected database for publishing. Deploying Relativity Server is as easy as copying it along with its required libraries and configuration files to the destination machine. It runs on Windows under the .NET Framework, or on Linux or Mac under the Mono Framework. Test it by running it in application mode, or, for production purposes, install it as a service or daemon.
Developer tools provider RemObjects Software previously only had Relativity Server and Server Explorer available as part of Data Abstract, a cross-platform multi-tier database application development framework for .NET, Xcode and Delphi. It is still included in all editions of Data Abstract, but is now also available separately on the Mac App Store. Separate Server Explorer versions for Windows and the Apple iPad are currently in development.

The Open Data Protocol (OData) is a web protocol for querying, updating, inserting and deleting data. OData combines Web technologies such as HTTP, Atom Publishing Protocol (AtomPub) and JSON. This commonly accepted protocol provides a standardized way to work with both metadata and the data it describes. As a standardized web protocol, free and open source client implementations exist for a wide range of platforms and development tools.
