Relentless scrutiny pushed Palin to exasperationEven after 2008 campaign, relentless scrutiny pushed Palin to exasperation, toward bankruptcy
JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) ' New emails from Sarah Palin's time as Alaska's governor show that the pressure of flimsy ethics complaints, financial burdens and mounting legal bills were building on her.
Just a few months after returning from the presidential campaign trail, a weary Palin shot off a 1 a.m. email to top colleagues in her office.
In the email, she says, "I'm just beat down on this one."
She finished with a sobering conclusion: "One has to be single, wealthy, or corrupt to function in this political system."
The email was included in 34,820 pages released by the state this week. They represent the last of her emails, from about October 2008 until her resignation in July 2009.
