Red Giants Knoll Light Factory Sparkles SaveDisney.comMark Sutherland Productions and CondorMedia create lighting VFX (June 24, 2004)
Red Giant Software today announced that Mark Sutherland Productions and CondorMedia used Knoll Light Factory on two recent SaveDisney.com videos to make the organization's logo sparkle and create special lighting effects in line with the magical theme for which Roy Disney is famous. Knoll Light Factory's photo-realistic composites and transitions had a dramatic impact on the media used to support the Vote No Campaign led by Roy E. Disney and Stanley Gold against board members of The Walt Disney Company. The outcome made global headlines with one of the largest shareholder uprisings in U.S. corporate history.
Knoll Light Factory is the gold standard in lighting effects and is used by thousands of motion graphic professionals and visual effects artists. With the software, users can easily produce photo-realistic composites and lens flares commonly seen on television and in feature films.
"We wanted to create an effect for the SaveDisney.com logo that represented the magical theme for which Roy Disney is famous. The resulting effects sequence helped to bring the SaveDisney.com logo to life and the first video was a great opener and closer to the crucial SaveDisney.com shareholder rally in Philadelphia," said Mark Sutherland, Mark Sutherland Productions.
"We chose Knoll Light Factory because the software's presets provided a great starting point. Also, the keyframeable light source has an aesthetically pleasing way of replicating light as a camera would react to it," said Duane Conder, CondorMedia.
"In the videos, the final motion graphic is initiated by Roy Disney's hand gesture and statement, '...bring back the magic.' A glow ball point of light happily (and photo-realistically) appears in response to his gesture, then Roy blurs away as the glow ball rapidly grows kicking off particles as it arcs across the frame. The glow ball is the light source for the resulting custom flare events that lead up to the final light blast of the logo reveal. Without Knoll Light Factory, there would have been no glow ball, flares, or magical effect," continued Conder.
