Radium Adds Two New Producers

Velvy Appleton and Buzz Hays join Radium team (February 25, 2005)

Senior Producer Velvy Appleton and Executive Producer Buzz Hays have joined Radium working in both the San Francisco and Santa Monica offices. The two bring with them many years of industry experience and expertise, solidifying a core team of seasoned talent at Radium.

Senior Producer Velvy Appleton is a veteran in both the production and post production arenas joining Radium with nearly 20 years of industry experience. His resume includes productions for Industrial Light & Magic, Colossal Pictures, Wild Brain, Curious Pictures, ABC/Disney, MTV, Nickelodeon, Apple, Complete Pandemonium, R/Greenberg Associates, Little Beast, Star TV (Hong Kong, Bombay), WorldLink Network and most recently, The Orphanage, where he produced feature film visual effects for "SpyKids3D" and "Hellboy". Appletons background also includes a brief foray into directing which earned him Art Direction Magazine's "Best Spot of the Year" Award, a Telly Award and a San Francisco International Film Festival Golden Gate Award. He came on with Radium as a freelance visual effects producer for Sin City in 2004 and then as Senior Producer in 2005. ?This is an exciting time at Radium and I am thrilled to be part of it said Appleton, ?I feel that the team here offers the best of all worlds; we've got industry experience along with new energy and ideas. Executive Producer Buzz Hays brings a strong background spanning many aspects of television and film experience to the Radium ensemble. He was recruited by George Lucas to become Head of Research and Development at Lucasfilm THX and spent five years leading a team of film, video and computer designers and technology visionaries. Also among his career achievements he was Vice President and Co-Founder of Tribeca Interactive in San Francisco (enlisted by Jane Rosenthal and Robert De Niro), Chief Creative Officer and Studio Chief for Protozoa and dotcomix, (a San Francisco-based animation company), and produced real-time animation project with "Doonesbury" creator Garry Trudeau. From 2003-2004, Buzz was Executive Producer and Producer at yU+co in Hollywood, where he produced main titles and visual effects for feature films and broadcast commercials. His recent work includes a promotional film with legendary Chinese director Zhang Yimou for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, main title sequences for Catwoman, The Terminal, and Taking Lives, HBOs Iron Jawed Angels, and PBSs NOVA. Buzz joined Radium in January 2005 as Executive Producer.
