RTL Televizija Installs Omneon Spectrum Server SystemsSupports streamlined production and playout (March 21, 2005)
Omneon Video Networks today announced that Broadcasting Center Europe (BCE), an RTL Group company, has installed two Omneon Spectrum media server systems within a new playout facility for RTL Televizija, a Croatian television channel that launched on-air operations in 2004. The new channel is using one Omneon server system for news and production and has dedicated the second to playout.
"Our commitment was to implement a very modern server solution at the RTL Televizija facility, and the Omneon server offered unique flexibility in handling multiple formats within a single system and scalability that would allow us to expand operations easily," said Gusty Feinen, manager of special projects for BCE. "The Omneon server is fairly new to RTL, and we've been very pleased with how stable a system it has proved to be. Our BCE engineering and system administration teams have quickly become familiar with the functionalities of the Omneon system. We find the server concept and architecture very easy to understand and to implement in a most efficient way."
The all-digital RTL Televizija facility, located in Zagreb, represents the most advanced broadcast technology in Croatia. To enable efficient playout for that channel's local, Croatian, and international news and entertainment programs, BCE integrated RTL's proprietary Au2Play automation software with the NCPower newsroom system and the Omneon server. The automation system enables playout from the Omneon Spectrum system, with playlists exported via NCPower's broadcast schedule. As a result, the technical director has access to two channels in a fast, stable, and versatile system that allows the launch of a variety of prerecorded and last-minute news items.
The Omneon Spectrum media server is an exceptionally cost-effective and flexible media server designed for the professional television industry. Built on an open architecture that allows it to support a broad variety of third-party applications for control and transmission, media management, archiving, and collaborative production, the Omneon server also enables many users and applications to share stored media. The modular Omneon Spectrum server system delivers maximum flexibility in scaling system components and capacity in small or large increments as desired.
