REMINDER: WPC Discusses HITECH Compliance and Innovation at AHIP Institute

(June 20, 2012)

NASHVILLE, TN -- (Marketwire) -- 06/20/12 --

WHAT:
Eric Mueller, services president, WPC, and Hector Rodriguez, industry chief technology strategist at Microsoft, will co-present an educational session titled "What's Missing from Your Security and Compliance Efforts?" at America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) Institute 2012. In the wake of ARRA HITECH compliance preparations, surging data breaches and increased hacker attacks, this interactive presentation will detail how health plans can successfully meet HIPAA privacy and security requirements without compromising the health of their members, business innovation, execution and operations. The educational session is part of AHIP's annual conference. AHIP is the national trade association representing the health insurance industry.

WHY:
Increased digitization of clinical and financial health information, stepped-up enforcement of HIPAA by the federal government and stiffer penalties for data breaches based on the level of an organization's culpability, have elevated security of protected health information (PHI) to a top-of-mind issue for insurers. Payers must use PHI to drive high quality and cost-effective care while protecting members from fraud and identity theft that potentially poses a significant risk to their bottom line, competitive position, viability and reputation.

Mueller, a recognized expert in healthcare compliance, and Rodriguez, who works with Microsoft's health plan customers to address compliance challenges, will counsel payers on strategies for enhancing and balancing HITECH compliance with business and operational demands. The speakers also will share tips and best practices that will help insurers adequately handle and protect PHI as they transition to ICD-10, new reimbursement models, operating rules, technologies and workflows.
