RE:Vision Releases Twixtor 3.0

'Pro' version adds new tracking features By Dave Nagel
RE:Vision Effects has released Twixtor 3.0. Twixtor is a plugin for motions graphics, compositing and editing software used to speed up and slow down sequences. It's available for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows in standard and "Pro" versions.

Twixtor is designed to produce time effects (like time warps) and can synthesize unique new frames by warping and interpolating frames of the original sequence. It calculates motion vectors for each pixel and offers keyframeable retiming for control on a frame by frame basis. It also allows for foreground and background separation using a specified matte and can track and fill the background layer even when it is obscured by the foreground.

Twixtor Pro 3 adds specific enhancements for working with more problematic footage, including the use of up to 12 tracking points for motion tracking estimation. Users can also specify up to three foreground layers for "disambiguating" the motion of multiple objects. And it provides users with the ability to guide Twixtor along using animated shapes to show how objects are actually moving.

Twixtor 3.0 is available in an After Effects plugin version for Adobe After Effects and Premiere, Discreet Combustion, Apple Final Cut Pro and Pinnacle Systems Commotion. The regular version sells for $329.99; the Pro version sells for $595. Upgrades from the regular version to the Pro version are $265, and upgrades from Pro 2.0 to Pro 3.0 run $100.

A separate version of Twixtor is also available for Apple's Shake compositing system for Mac OS X, Linux and Windows for $795 for a full license and $318 for render-only licenses. Upgrades from the previous versions are available for $300 for a full license and $120 for a render-only license upgrade. The version for Discreet Spark remains at 2.0.
