R!OT Manhattan Opens Doors to OlympusStudio Posts HD Spot Promoting Sponsorship of PBS Special
R!OT Manhattan provided HD visual effects, compositing and finishing for a new corporate image spot for Olympus highlighting the companys commitment to innovation. Conceived by The Martin Agency, the 30-second spot promotes Olympus sponsorship of They Made America¸ 4-part special airing on PBS. The spot will air on the network in both HD and standard definition video formats.
Directed by Believe Medias Nick Brandt and edited by Final Cuts Gary Knight, Doorways consists of a series of vignettes, demonstrating various Olympus products, that are seamlessly tied together to appear as part of a single camera move. The camera opens on a mother using a digital camera to record her kids acting in a play, then pushes past the kids and through a door to reveal an operating room where doctors are using a gastrocamera during a surgical procedure. Continuing its move, the camera leaves the hospital and enters a locker room where a reporter is interviewing an athlete with a digital tape recorder. The journey continues through a research lab and a photographers fashion shoot.
R!OT Senior Visual Effects Artist Randie Swanberg composited the string of scenes, aligning the elements to form a perfect match. In some instances, he had to subtly effect the speed of scenes to make the camera move proceed smoothly and to ensure the timings were right.
Additionally, Swanberg added visual effects elements to tie adjacent scenes together. ?We used lighting and color correction techniques to integrate one scene with the next, he said. ?As the door opens at the end of the theater scene, we added an effect where light from the operating room seems to spill onto the stage. Similarly, we added effects to the frosted glass windows in the door at the back of the research lab so that you can see the silhouettes of the characters in the next scene, the photographers studio.
