Quebecor Continues Partnership With Jour de la Terre Quebec and Reaffirms Commitment to the Environment(April 10, 2012)
MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 04/10/12 -- Quebecor (TSX:QBR.A)(TSX:QBR.B) is pleased to renew its partnership with Jour de la Terre Quebec for a sixth year and to support, in collaboration with its subsidiaries, numerous programs that have a positive impact on the environment. Quebecor is taking decisive steps to incorporate eco-friendly principles into its activities, such as a corporate environmental strategy, a sustainable development committee that includes all its subsidiaries, and 70 Green Ambassadors.
In July 2012, all Videotron stores, Videotron le Superclub locations and Archambault stores will begin supporting the expanded Allo la Terre! program. Quebecers will be able to drop off not only old mobile handsets but also other small electrical appliances for recycling. All proceeds from the sale and recycling of handsets and appliances will go to Jour de la Terre Quebec. Quebecor is also backing the program through an awareness-raising campaign in its print media outlets.
Other concrete actions
Videotron and Jour de la Terre Quebec have been working together for five years. As a result of major initiatives such as the online billing program, under which Videotron pledged to plant a tree for each customer who signed up for electronic billing, more than 325,000 trees have been planted to date. Starting on April 24 and continuing for a year, Videotron will also post a weekly green technology tip on its social media platforms.
Since 2009, Archambault Group has contributed nearly $60,000 to Jour de la Terre Quebec. The money was raised through various green initiatives, including a 5 cents charge for Archambault single-use plastic bags, all proceeds of which go to Jour de la Terre Quebec. In 2011, some of the funds were used for greening the schoolyard at Ecole Pepin in Laval. Archambault Group has also taken a proactive stance by printing its store window posters on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified 10% to 100% recycled material.
Quebecor Media Book Group continues to print all black-and-white books on 100% recycled paper. As responsible procurement is a key component of Quebecor's environmental commitment, the Company is also working closely with its suppliers on this front: more than 90% of TVA Publishing's magazines are now printed on FSC-certified paper. Meanwhile, Quebecor's printing plants in Mirabel and Islington are in the process of obtaining FSC certification.
Porteur d'espoir: Recognizing individual contributions
Quebecor is proud to be associated once again with Jour de la Terre Quebec's Porteur d'espoir competition, which recognizes green citizen initiatives. Quebecor is currently conducting a Quebec-wide promotional campaign to publicize the award. The winner, to be announced on April 22, will receive a $5,000 prize, of which $2,500 will go to the environmental organization of his or her choice.
In addition to concrete green actions within the Company, all Quebecor subsidiaries will be harnessed to raise public awareness of environmental issues. For example, on Earth Day, the Salut Bonjour television program will deal with ecological themes and many of Quebecor's magazines, dailies and weeklies will highlight the environment. Among other things, the free daily 24 Heures will publish an Earth Day special supplement and the VOX channel will air several programs focused on the environment, including OPEN tele, Le Lab, and Les reperes de Languirand, hosted by Jour de la Terre Quebec's spokesperson Jacques Languirand.
