Quebec students mark 100 days of protestsThousands expected at Montreal student rally as protest marks 100 days
MONTREAL (AP) ' Thousands of students are expected to turn out in the streets of Montreal to mark 100 days since the movement against higher tuition fees began. The protest comes less than a week after Quebec's provincial government passed emergency legislation to put an ended to Canada's most sustained student demonstrations.
Student groups have called the new legislation an act of war, vowed to challenge it in court and called for a large turnout on Tuesday. Student strikes have paralyzed over a dozen junior colleges and universities.
Since the law was passed Friday, nightly protests have often turned violent, resulting in some 300 arrests Sunday night alone. Police have yet to fully enforce the new law, which calls for protests of over 50 people to provide a detailed agenda.
