Quark Previews QuarkXPress 6

Next-generation page layout software to support Mac OS X By Dave Nagel
Quark today began previewing the next generation of its page layout application, QuarkXPress 6. The company has not released very many details about the new version. However, it has answered the one question on so many users' minds: It will run natively on Mac OS X.

Quark had previously said that an update to version 5 would address the Mac OS X issue. It's not clear yet whether this latest announcement supersedes the previous report or not. It's also not clear yet whether the software will stop supporting Mac OS 9. Quark says simply that it will run on Mac OS X, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. We'll update this information as it becomes available.

In addition to Mac OS X support, QuarkXPress 6 will also offer several workflow enhancements. These include a reorganization of menus, more commands available in contextual menus and support for multiple undo/redo and additional actions that can be undone and redone.

Quark has not announced pricing or availability for QuarkXPress 6, though the company says it will continue to provide further previews of the new version over the coming weeks on its Web site. For more information, visit
