QuVIS to Showcase 3D and HD at InfoComm

New servers support advanced 3D playback. (June 07, 2004)

QuVIS, Inc., manufacturer of the most sophisticated and versatile servers in the industry, will display the latest in digital video technology at 2004 InfoComm at the Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta, Ga., June 9 - 11. QuVIS will highlight large screen display technology for venues including planetariums, theme parks, museums, location based entertainment and digital cinema.

Featured at this show will be the QuVIS Ovation, QuVIS Cinema Player and QuVIS Acuity, three servers new for 2004. For fixed display applications, the QuVIS Ovation is the ultimate player supporting 12-bit per channel image quality, more than 50 formats, outstanding reliability and ease of use. The QuVIS Cinema Player continues the tradition of excellence in digital cinema with the first cinematic solution providing 2K and 4K as well as 2K playback from a 4K master.

The third entry in this trio of innovative servers, the QuVIS Acuity, is the first practical solution for real time 3D mastering. This diverse platform boasts the ability to maintain dual-stream 3D in one server in a variety of resolutions up to and including 2048 x 1080. The QuVIS Acuity provides optional real-time mastering and the ability to edit and jog shuttle through both streams simultaneously.

In conjunction with InfoComm, QuVIS will participate as a sponsor in "Beyond the Cineplex," a Digital Cinema Report forum on new markets and new technologies, being held Tuesday, June 8, 2004 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in Room A315 of the Georgia World Congress Center.

As part of its sponsorship of the forum, the QuVIS Acuity will be used to drive several of the widescreen 3D, HD and cinematic presentations including the first public screening of 3D content using the dual channel Acuity. Also playing will be the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) Standardized Evaluation Material ("StEM"). Designed by a team of world-class cinematographers, the DCI "StEM," or "Mini-Movie," incorporates content captured in both 35mm and 65 mm formats with a variety of lighting conditions, colors, textures and variables that are technically challenging for the compression test. The content was then scanned to a 4K digital format. QuVIS is the only server manufacturer with commercially available equipment that can currently support a real time 2K extraction from a 4K source. In addition, the Topeka, Kansas manufacturer's president and CEO Kenbe Goertzen will speak on the many new opportunities that digital cinema technology is creating for producers, post houses and systems integrators.

"The continued growth of digital cinema technology provides exhibitors, studios, equipment manufacturers and ultimately the viewing audience with improved image quality, cost savings and flexibility over film technology," says Kenbe Goertzen, president and CEO of QuVIS. "QuVIS is proud to play a leading role in this industry that transcends film by enhancing the creative process, enabling secure distribution channels and offering significant business opportunities well beyond the scope of the movie theatre. We look forward to moving the digital cinema business beyond the walls of the cinema."

In addition to the companies own booth, #4561, QuVIS equipment will be on display in exhibits sponsored by the following companies: Barco Visual Solutions, #1317; Christie Digital, #1943; Digital Projection, #3755; DNP Electronics America, LLC., #2354; JVC, #1931; Lighthouse Technologies, Ltd., #255; Sanyo Fisher Company, #2217 and Vista Systems, #4527.
