QSC Amplifier Endures Merciless Eminence Testing

(August 07, 2001)
A QSC PowerLight 9.0 amplifier was recently pummeled, tortured, and generally abused as part of a "life test" devised by Eminence, one of the world's largest manufacturers of loudspeakers and related electronic components. Overseen and directed by Eminence's Jerry McNutt, the grueling study sought to establish the point of failure for one of the company's Kilomax woofers using nothing less than extreme measures.

"We ran the PowerLight 9.0 at an average of 1500 watts for over two weeks nonstop," McNutt relates. "The big amp just kept going and going--so did our woofer by the way--without a problem. Even in bridged mode, we failed to see the clipping indicators come on once. This amp has truly taken our testing process to another level."

Founded in 1966, Eminence sells over 2 million loudspeakers each year. Designed expressly for professional audio applications, QSC's PowerLight Series is a wide-ranging line of amplifiers featuring the company’s PowerWave™ switching power supply technology that eliminates hum and reduces noise, the Advanced Thermal Management system for cool, reliable operation and high-efficiency, plus Class H linear output circuitry for lower AC current consumption. The line comprises over a dozen models ranging in size from 200 to 4500 watts.
