QPS Intros FireWire DVD Rewritable Drive

DVD+RW compatible with consumer DVD players By Dave Nagel
QPS has unveiled a FireWire-based DVD+RW drive. The company will start showing off the new model--the FireWire Que!--at the Macworld conference kicking off today in San Francisco.

According to QPS. the DVD+RW format is the only rewritable standard that is "fully compatible" with consumer DVD players and computer DVD-ROM drives. The new model can write up to 4.38 GB of data and can be overwritten about 1,000 times. The new model will also include MPEG-2 encoding software, though details of this software were not available at press time. We'll swing by and visit QPS on the show floor later this week to see what kind of software is included.

The FIreWire Que! will sell for a suggested $649 at most computer retail outlets and online stores. For more information, visit
