Protest drummers seen as both poisonous, inspiredSome neighbors see Occupy Wall Street protest drummers as poisonous, others as inspired
NEW YORK (AP) ' To some, the drummers in the Manhattan park that's become the center of Occupy Wall Street are a positive force.
Others call the percussionists noisy "poisonous people" whose relentless beat is now limited to four hours a day.
Paralegal Kris Lew shows up daily to hit a cowbell. She says it's part of "the energy that keeps the movement going."
The protest camp's volunteer Internet Working Group recently hosted a discussion called "Surviving Poisonous People in Decentralized Groups."
To some participants, they include the drummers called the Pulse who first appeared about three weeks ago.
At first, the beat would stretch all day ' a sort of soundtrack for the few hundred people who moved in about a month ago. But then neighbors started complaining and limits were created.
