Pre K Scholars to Launch Phonics-Based Letter-Sound Recognition App(August 25, 2011)
El Dorado Hills, CA (PRWEB) August 25, 2011
Pre K Scholars (http://www.prekscholars.com) is collaborating with Digital Attic (http://www.digitalattic.com) to develop a phonics-based app to make letter-sound recognition a fun adventure for 3-5 year olds. The iPhone app is scheduled for completion in September 2011 with the Android version anticipated soon thereafter. It will be a fun, useful supplement to a preschool curriculum, kindergarten readiness program or homeschool instruction.
We are building on the lessons learned developing our award winning Kindergarten Readiness Kit, said Pre K Scholars founder Amy Schwary. Children love games and love to learn. By building phonics concepts into games children love to play like our Guessing Game we can hold the attention of preschoolers and prepare them for kindergarten success.
We selected Digital Attic of Fresno, California to be our partner because they had collaborated with us in developing and animating our comprehensive preschool curriculum and that end product, the Kindergarten Readiness Kit, was just awarded Creative Child Magazines 2011 Media of the Year Award.
Digital Attic vice president, Troy Vasquez, is high on the project. My wife is a school teacher and we have a four year old daughter so my family is particularly well suited to evaluate the Pre K Scholars approach to kindergarten preparation. My daughter loves the many activities, games and Scholarville characters in the Kindergarten Readiness Kit. We have tested the app games to make sure four year olds can play them and enjoy them without parental help. My daughter loves to play the prototypes I have been bringing home and we are delighted she can be learning independently. She is having fun and learning important skills at the same time. This is a great set of letter/sound recognition games and my daughter will be the first testimonial when the app is launched
The app will have four components, games and exercises that a preschooler can manage on the iPhone without a parent, a phonics-based letter-sound recognition section, the Guessing Game to reinforce initial word sounds, a concentration game for letter identification that is randomized so the same challenge never appears twice, and a letter tracing app for early handwriting development and introduction of letter formation. All four app components utilize auditory, visual and kinesthetic modalities to accommodate all types of learners. The developers believe the app will be very helpful to homeschoolers, preschools, kindergarten readiness programs and to those with learning disabilities who require high levels of repetition and reinforcement as well as English as Second Language learners (ESL).
