Powerfile Debuts Optical Storage System for Mac OS XC200 MFX and R200 MFX offer access to 200 CDs and DVDs
Thew new PowerFile storage systems include the C200 MFX and R200 MFX. The R200 MFX is a read/write system for publishing, archiving and cataloging up to 200 DVDs and CDs (for about 940 GB of storage) and for accessing them across a network. The C200 MFX is a read-only version of the system. Both include MediaFinder X software for cataloging CDs and DVDs and providing access to the stored libraries to a host computer or across a network. According to PowerFile, the devices also support third-party management systems, such as Canto Cumulus and Extensis Portfolio.
Both models come in a 19-inch rackmount design and can be daisychained with four other systems via FireWire, for up to 4.7 TB of storage. Using an OS X server the PowerFile library can be shared with clients running Mac OS X, AppleShare, Windows (CIFS), Unix (NFS) and FTP. (No client software is required.) The storage system is treated by the host computer as if it were a hard drive, mounting on the Desktop and providing administration access by right-clicking on the drive's icon. (Configurations are handled through System Preferences.) And it supports Mac OS X privileges for security.
The C200 MFX and R200 MFX are available now for Mac OS X for $2,799 to $4,799. For more information, visit http://www.powerfile.com.
