Poll: Opposition to Iran going nuclear widespreadPoll: Opposition to Iran gaining nuclear weapons widespread in 21 nations, including Egypt
NEW YORK (AP) ' A new poll finds widespread opposition around the world to Iran obtaining nuclear weapons and strong support for tougher economic sanctions.
The Pew Global Attitudes survey of 21 nations finds most oppose Iran going nuclear, including the neighboring nations of Egypt, Jordan and Turkey.
While support for bolstering economic sanctions remains high, support for military intervention is more divided. Support for military action is highest in the U.S. and lowest in Russia. At least 50 percent of the people surveyed in Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland and the Czech Republic back military intervention.
The poll comes as the AP reports that International Atomic Energy Agency chief Yukiya Amano will fly to Iran to sign a deal meant to allow the U.N. agency to resume investigating the nuclear program.
