Police: federal prosecutor looking into beating

Police: no state charges, but federal prosecutor looking at Texas judge's beating of daughter By The Associated Press

McALLEN, Texas (AP) ' The U.S. Attorney's Office is looking into a video that shows a Texas judge lashing his teenage daughter with a belt.

Rockport Police Chief Tim Jayroe said Friday that he discussed the 2004 video of Aransas (uh-RAN'-zuhs) County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams beating his then 16-year-old daughter with a prosecutor from the U.S. Attorney's Corpus Christi office.

Jayroe says the prosecutor told him he had seen the video and would look into it.

The now-23-year-old daughter, Hillary Adams, posted the video online last week. Jayroe said Thursday that William Adams would not face state criminal charges because the statute of limitations had expired.

Separately, County Attorney Richard Bianchi says a visiting judge will handle all of Adams' cases for the next two weeks.
