Police: Man shot at UC Berkeley acted strangely

Police: Man shot at UC Berkeley acted strangely in days before fatal encounter with officers By The Associated Press

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) ' Investigators say the University of California, Berkeley undergraduate who was fatally shot when he pointed a loaded gun at campus police officers had been acting strangely in recent weeks.

UC Berkeley police Capt. Margo Bennett said Wednesday that family members and others who knew 32-year-old Christopher Travis said he displayed unusual behavior during the two weeks prior to Tuesday's shooting.

University officials said Travis died from his wounds Wednesday.

Police offered no further details on Travis' behavior and did not say why he might have brought the gun to the Haas School of Business. Travis started at Haas this fall after transferring from Ohlone (oh-LOH-nee) Community College in Fremont.

State records show Travis was a licensed security guard. Police say there was no indication he had a concealed weapons permit.
