Police: 9-year-old again drove for drinking dadPolice: For 2nd time in Oct, dad charged with allowing 9-year-old to be 'designated driver'
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) ' For the second time this month, authorities have charged a father with allowing his 9-year-old child to be a designated driver.
The Florida Highway Patrol says 31-year-old Nathan Sikkenga told troopers after a crash Saturday in Orlando that he and his wife had been drinking, so they had their 9-year-old son drive their van. The family was visiting from Gillette, Wyoming. Sikkenga was charged with child endangerment.
No telephone listing could be found for Sikkenga and it wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.
On Oct. 8, police say a Detroit-area man had his 9-year-old daughter drive him to the store because he had been drinking. Surveillance video from a gas station shows him saying his daughter was his "designated driver."
The father was charged with child abuse.
