Police commissioner: Conn. chief should be fired

Police commissioner: Conn. chief should be fired amid probe of discrimination against Latinos By The Associated Press

EAST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) ' The police commission chairman in a Connecticut town where officers are accused of harassing Latinos is calling for the dismissal of the police chief.

Frederick Brow says police Chief Leonard Gallo should be fired for what he called a "breakdown in control" of the police department. Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. is expected to make an announcement in connection with the scandal Monday morning, but the topic isn't clear.

The FBI arrested four officers last week on charges they waged a campaign of harassment against Latinos, including assaults and intimidation. The officers have pleaded not guilty.

Gallo confirmed to The Associated Press that an announcement would be made later Monday. He declined to comment further.

The police commission will vote Tuesday on whether to recommend to Maturo that Gallo be fired.
