PointRoll Changes Face of Online Video AdvertisingOffers faster, higher quality and easier-to-view streaming ads (July 27, 2004)
Today, rich media ad leader PointRoll, Inc. unveiled its new video technology, marking the end of the era of pixilated, jerky and difficult-to-view video advertisements. The functionality allows advertisers and agencies to include high quality, streaming video in PointRolls leading products, including the companys expandable FatBoy and 100K+ TomBoy ads. PointRoll is the first 3rd party rich media company to offer format-agnostic video streaming.
?Video advertising isnt new, but doing it right is, said Jules Gardner, CEO of PointRoll. ?Agencies dont want to bother with proprietary ad formats, and Internet users wont watch a video clip thats slow to load and is a jumbled mess. With our new video feature, we solve all of these problems and deliver great results for advertisers.
Prioritizes Ease of Use
PointRoll has always placed a priority on delivering products and features that meet the needs of the Web user, publisher and advertiser. With its new video feature, PointRoll delivers a seamless experience -- no plug-ins are necessary, and due to automatic bandwidth detection, video will be compressed as needed for modems, low broadband, or high broadband speeds. Videos begin playing quickly resulting in minimal buffering delays. The PointRoll video functionality is page-based, and therefore eliminates issues revolving around play ratio.
In addition, PointRoll has ensured that the development process for agencies and advertisers is as easy as possible. The new video feature is a format-agnostic system that is compatible with standard video formats including Flash, MPEG, Real, QuickTime and Windows Media. No time-consuming conversion to a proprietary format is required.
The video ad can be any size, from banner to half-screen, and allows interactivity within the ad. A consumer can interact with the ad before, during, or after the ad plays. In fact, any of the numerous features that can be used in a PointRoll ad unit, such as data collection, e-mail, sweepstakes and dynamic data, can be used with the video. For example, a consumer could click an ?order now button inside a film trailer to purchase tickets.
A new compression algorithm ensures the highest-possible quality. Unlike video delivered from a progressive format which can limit file size and visual quality, PointRolls video has no cap on file size, due to its ability to stream. The new product allows advertisers to deliver a crisp, high-quality video to the end user.
With PointRolls video functionality, advertisers receive a wide amount of data to demonstrate ROI and help them improve campaigns over time. Metrics delivered include ad impressions, average brand interaction time, interaction rate and panels viewed. The new feature will also contain a Video Completion metric. This function informs the advertiser of the percentage of users that viewed the video to completion. Lastly, there is a report that will provide a break-down of the delivery of the different bandwidth speeds the video ran on, which helps advertisers better develop future campaigns.
Clients that have already leveraged the video component include New Line Cinema, Disney, Electronic Arts, Warner Brothers, Intel and the Sci-Fi Channel.
?At Universal Home Video and DVD, we have utilized PointRoll dozens of times to promote new releases across multiple sites and portals. Putting our trailers inside their permission-based FatBoy ads continues to be a big part of our online initiatives and with their new - almost DVD quality clear - streaming video, we look forward to using PointRoll to promote several upcoming titles, including Van Helsing and Dawn of the Dead, says Ken Graffeo, Executive Vice President of Universal Studios Home Video.
?With PointRoll's new video stream feature, we can design ads that deliver an immersive, interactive video experience without downloading delays, poor quality, or other issues sometimes associated with online video," said Adam Hanft with Hanft Unlimited, Inc. ?PointRoll also provides top-notch development tools and excellent customer service, making our jobs easier. Were excited about integrating this feature into upcoming campaigns.
Eric Peterson, Senior Art Director at CLS added, ?They get the point. PointRoll provides a dynamic array of ad solutions that maximize the potency and reach of our campaigns. PointRoll's new video solution takes this one step further, allowing the advertiser to generate crisp, vibrant video content and combine it with the interactivity PointRoll is known for. Their customer representatives are smart, efficient and exude a ?we can do that attitude. In a time where many advertising services try to promote themselves as the answer to all your technology needs, PointRoll actually is.
