Plextor Takes SCSI CD-RW Line to 40x

Internal, external versions coming in early 2003 By Dave Nagel
Plextor has announced its new SCSI-based PlexWriter CD-RW drive. The new model is available in an internal 5.25-inch half-height configuration and in an external configuration. Both versions will be available in early 2003 for Macintosh and Windows.

The PlexWriter includes an UltraSCSI interface for a burst transfer rate of up to 20 MB per second. It offers 40x write, 12x rewrite and 40x read speeds. It also includes BURN-Proof technology for buffer underrun protection and PowerRec for stable recording at maximum speeds. It also offers 40x digital audio extraction with technologies that are designed to eliminate pops, clicks and hisses.

The internal version is expected to ship Jan. 15 for $249. The external version is expected to ship Feb. 15 for $319. Both support Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows. For more information, visit
