Plextor Ships 48x CD BurnerUSB 2.0/1.1 version coming in September
The internal PlexWriter 48/24/48A drive interfaces to any PC/AT-compatible system via ATA/ATAPI-5 and fits in any standard 5.25-inch half-height drive bay. The external PlexWriter 48/24/48U drive interfaces to any laptop or desktop computer via USB 2.0 or USB 1.1.
The drives each have a buffer size of 4 MB and include BURN-Proof technology, which is designed to maximize reliability by reducing or eliminating buffer underrun errors. They also feature PoweRec and VariRec technology. PoweRec is a media-writing strategy that guarantees recording results across a broad base of certified media and calibrates the drive to each media disc to ensure the highest quality write operation using Constant Angular Velocity servo positioning.
VariRec (variable recording) provides users with control over the burn process, including tweaking the laser beam power levels in order to achieve particular playback characteristics or enhance disc compatibility with home/car CD players. (VariRec is only available with Track-at-Once and Disc-at-Once recording modes at 4x CD write speeds.)
The drives do not include a Macintosh software bundle, though the company says they are compatible wit Macintosh systems. The internal model is available now for $169. The external model should be available in the second half of September for $209. For more information, visit http://www.plextor.com.
