Plextor Ships 24x Portable CD-R

Plextor has shipped a new portable USB 2.0 drive. The new model offers 24x write speeds and supports Macintosh and Windows.

According to Plextor, the new drive offers 24x write, 10x rewrite and 24x read speeds when hooked up through a USB 2.0 connection. It's also backward-compatible with USB 1.1 for systems that lack USB 2.0 support. Plextor says the USB 2.0 throughput is available for Mac OS X and Windows, with USB 1.1 support for Mac OS 8.6/9.x.

It has a 2 MB buffers with buffer underrun prevention technologyand offers burst speeds of 480 megabits per second in USB 2.0 and 12 megabits per second in USB 1.1. It supports Track-at-Once, Disc-at-Once, Session-at-Once, Multisession, and variable/fixed packet writing.

The portable 24/10/24U weighs less than a pound and measures 5.5" x 0.87" x 6.73". It's available now for $199. For more information, visit
