Plaintiff describes police beating at civil trial

Plaintiff describes beating by 3 Pittsburgh police officers at federal civil rights trial By The Associated Press

PITTSBURGH (AP) Three white Pittsburgh police officers sat shaking their heads at various points during the testimony of a young black man who says they beat and wrongfully arrested him more than two years ago on a cold, snowy night.

The officers appeared to disagree with several details of 20-year-old Jordan Miles' testimony Thursday in his federal civil rights trial against the officers.

Miles contends he was accosted by the three plainclothes officers while talking on his cellphone and walking to his grandmother's house on the next block. He says he was badly beaten even after being handcuffed and choked and told to shut up when he began praying.

The officers have said they had reason to stop Miles because they believed he was a prowler possibly armed with a gun.
