Pixels Ships Pixels 3D 4.0

Latest release half off through December By Dave Nagel
Pixels has released version 4.0 of its Macintosh 3D modeling and animation suite, Pixels 3D. It includes a completely revamped interface based on a tree-like hierarchy. It also includes several enhancement to its modeling tools. Through the end of December, the software is selling for half off the normal price of $599.

According to Pixels, version 4.0 fully supports solid, NURBS, polygonal, particle and metaball objects.Features include:

  • NURBS modeling tools, such as extrude, lathe, loft, sweep, relational modeling, control over weights and degree and curves on a surface.
  • The particle system can be customized and includes support for multiple emitters and forces. Objects can be instanced and emitted from surfaces and paths.
  • ShaderMaker, which is a system for creating procedural textures. It operates like a patch bay, allowing users to select the output of one node as the input of another node. It also uses a language similar to the RenderMan Shading Language.

Pixels 3D 4 also ships with an integrated, RenderMan-compliant REYES renderer, which supports micro-polygon displacement, depth of field, 3D motion blur and programmable shaders.

Pixels 3D is available now at an introductory price of $299. After December, it will sell for $599. For more information, visit
