Pioneer Intros Next-Generation DVD-R Drive

DVR-A05 coming in November By Dave Nagel
Pioneer Electronics has announced its new DVR-A05 drive. The DVR-A05 is the successor to the A04 DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW combination drive, also known as the "SuperDrive," which comes stock in Macintosh G4 models. The new version of the drive, which offers improved speed, will be available in November.

The drive features a new high-speed writing pickup that uses new laser driver technology designed for stable writing performance at high speeds. It also includes a new liquid crystal tilt mechanism for operation with discs that have uneven curvature or thickness. According to Pioneer, the DVR-A05 doubles writing performance of the A04 with 4x DVD-R, 2x DVD-RW, 16x CD-R and 8x CD-RW capabilities. The company says the new speed allows for recording a 4.7 GB DVD in about 15 minutes.

The DVR-A05 will be available in November for $299. For more information, visit http://www.pioneerelectronics.com.
