Pioneer Chooses SRS Circle Surround II For Wireless Speakers

Adds surround sound to new Smart Theater systems (September 20, 2004)

SRS Labs, Inc., a leading provider of innovative audio, voice and semiconductor technology solutions, today announced that long time customer Pioneer has chosen SRS Circle Surround II ("CS II") as their surround technology of choice for a new digital wireless speaker system targeting the Japan market. The Smart Theater XW-HT1-S and XW-HT1-K digital wireless speaker systems feature a 2.4-megahertz transmitter, which contains the Circle Surround decoder and a wireless speaker that acts as the rear speakers of a surround system. When connected to a standard television with integrated stereo speakers or a stereo audio system and a DVD or CD player, a realistic surround sound experience can be achieved from any audio material. Three distinct listening settings of cinema, music and wireless stereo are employed so listeners can best match the speaker settings with the particular content they choose to play. The speakers are expected to be available at the end of September in Japan.

Circle Surround II is a breakthrough, patented surround decode format that delivers up to 6.1 channels of audio from any mono, stereo, matrix-encoded, or Circle Surround-encoded material. CS II is the only surround decoder on the market today that features patented post-processing techniques to enhance the surround sound experience, including SRS Dialog Clarity, which improves the intelligibility and clarity of center channel information such as dialog, and SRS TruBass, which uses patented psychoacoustic techniques to deliver deep, rich bass from any playback system, including those with or without a subwoofer.

This innovative new Pioneer wireless speaker system turns any TV or mini stereo system into a wireless home theater system, creating thrilling and realistic surround sound from any audio material with enhanced bass and clearer vocals. Now ordinary music or a sporting event becomes a much more life-like experience, as if the listener was actually sitting in the front row of the concert hall or stadium. Another advantage of Circle Surround II technology is that it eliminates the need for the speakers to be placed in specific locations of the room because it delivers a wide and immersive surround field that captures a large audience.

"We are delighted that Pioneer has chosen Circle Surround technology for their latest high tech speaker product," said Hank Kato, sales manager for SRS Labs in Japan. "Pioneer has always been an innovative leader in delivering the very best quality consumer electronics and this new speaker line is no exception. Circle Surround's contribution of dynamic bass enhancement and crisper, cleaner dialog clarity along with its surround capabilities proves once again that SRS technologies are 'must-have' features for manufacturers looking for a competitive advantage."
