Pinnacle Systems DVD 2000 Helps Create DVD of Gates' COMDEX Opening Act

(November 13, 2001)
Pinnacle Systems, Inc. and Opulent Multimedia Group delivered an industry first to Microsoft CEO Bill Gates at the end of his COMDEX keynote address on Sunday evening -- a DVD of the Aussie minstrels that Gates had selected to entertain the crowd before he made his presentation.

Opulent Multimedia Group, an Australian company that specializes in film, television and music production, created the video using a standard Windows XP-based personal computer equipped with Pinnacle Systems' DVD 2000 professional video editing solution and Pinnacle Impression DVD Pro. At the end of Gates' keynote, the fully interactive video was played for the audience to show XP's strong multimedia content creation capabilities.

The 45-minute video features Bonacci & Wood, two popular Australian guitarists who delighted the crowd of nearly 17,000 that were gathered to hear Gates speak on the future of IT. COMDEX attendees can view copies of the video at Pinnacle Systems booth in the Recordable DVD Pavilion, L5555; and at Opulent Multimedia Group's Booth L2870. Opulent will also be demonstrating the real-time encoding capabilities of Pinnacle Systems' DVD 2000 and the timeline-based authoring features of Impression DVD Pro on an XP-based computer during COMDEX.

An enthusiastic supporter of the XP operating system and Pinnacle DVD 2000, Anthony Chidiac, CEO at Opulent, had no doubt that he could produce the video before Gates finished his address. "In my entire decade of being in the business, I have not experienced a platform and hardware as stable as this one. I take my hat off to the guys at Pinnacle. The XP driver that they developed to control the external inputs to this MPEG2 encoder is legendary. With a major event like the Microsoft Keynote at COMDEX, I wanted to make absolutely certain that the system worked flawlessly, so I really tested everything thoroughly. Even after encoding 1-1/2 and 2 hours of video, there wasn't a single crash, not one dropped frame. Pinnacle software is rock solid."

"Opulent did a great job in demonstrating how fast and easy it is to produce a DVD video," said Bill Loesch, Vice President of engineering and product management, of Pinnacle Systems' Personal Web Video Division. "The demonstration also showed how DVD 2000's real-time encoding and processing features combine with the reliability of the Windows XP operating system to provide the ideal solution for time-critical productions."
