Pinnacle Ships CineWave Classic

New version includes CineAcquire By Dave Nagel
Pinnacle Systems has started shipping a modified version of its CineWave system called CineWave Classic. CineWave Classic is designed for video and motion graphics professionals who already own Apple's Final Cut Pro and are looking for an uncompressed capture option. The company has also released CineAcquire, a video capture and device control application and plugin for Adobe After Effects and Pinnacle's Commotion Pro.

CineWave Classic offers the same uncompressed video capture as the standard CineWave system, and both are designed specifically for the Macintosh. It includes one of several available CineWave I/O breakout boxes--including a 10-bit SDI Pro Digital breakout box--as well as the CineAcquire application and plug-in module. Classic uses the same Targa Cine engine found in products across the CineWave product line, and users can upgrade from Classic to CineWave RT and HD configurations by attaching a breakout box or loading new software.

CineAcquire, introduced at this year's NAB convention, provides frame-accurate machine control for video capture and recording to tape. It works as a stand-alone application and as a plugin for Commotion Pro and After Effects. It allows for tasks like frame grabs and batch captures and provides RS-422 deck and device control in NTSC/PAL and HD formats. Other support includes

  • 720p
  • FireWire deck and device control
  • Frame capture with timecode
  • Import and export of Final Cut Pro and tab-delimited batch lists
  • Record-to-tape functions.

CineAcquire also includes the Pipeline Digital RS-422 Device Control Cable for connecting to VTRs and other external devices. CineWave Classic is available now for $5,495 (base price). CineAcquire is now included with all new CineWave systems and can also be ordered separately for $195. For more information, visit
