Adobe has released Photoshop Elements 2.0, a midrange image-editing package based on technologies in the company's flagship Photoshop package. The new version focuses on ease of use and also includes new color correction, compositing and creative tools.

According to Adobe, with Elements 2.0, users can apply common lighting and color correction in a single dialog window while viewing the original side by side with the modified version. It also includes a Photoshop-style file browser and access to help via a search field in the toolbar.

Photoshop Elements 2.0 also includes new color correction, compositing and creative tools. Changes include:

  • An updated Color Variations feature that now includes tips and a preview of real-time color adjustments.
  • Selection Brush for masking unwanted areas of a photo.
  • New paintbrush options for simulating oils, watercolors, charcoal, pastels and canvas textures.
  • Capture of individual frames from video clips.

Photoshop Elements 2.0 supports Mac and Windows, including Mac OS X. It's available for $99. For more information, visit
