Philly neighbors, developer battle over fall muralNeighbors, developer fight over deal that would preserve fall-theme mural in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ' Neighbors trying to preserve a fall-themed mural in one Philadelphia neighborhood want the developers of the vacant lot next door to make like a tree and leave.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the artist who created "Autumn" and neighbors in the Bella Vista neighborhood have raised $250,000 to buy a vacant lot on which a developer wants to build a town house. New construction would likely block the view of the mural of a small house nestled in a forest of color-changing foliage.
An attorney for the limited-liability company that owns the property says the $250,000 wouldn't cover his client's expected $650,000 profit.
The Inquirer report (http://bit.ly/qbDzfI ) says zoning officials have two weeks to consider the developers' request for a variance that would allow them to build on the lot.
