*ist D supports Pentax interchangeable lenses By Dave Nagel
Pentax today unveiled its forthcoming SLR-style, 6.1-megapixel digital camera, the *ist D. It will be available in September. The company has also introduced two new interchangeable lenses for the *ist D, which will be rolled out over the coming months.

The *ist D uses an APS-size CCD with 6.1 effective megapixels. It includes Pentax's SAFOX VIII autofocus system with an 11-point AF sensor; 16-segment multi-pattern metering system; a viewfinder with the newly developed compact glass pentaprism; and 22 user-adjustable controls.

The camera also supports Pentax's existing interchangeable lenses and accessories. The company says it's going to ship two new lenses for the *ist D, including the smc Pentax-FA J Zoom 18mm-35mm FA-F5.6 AL (equivalent to 27.5mm-53.5mm in 35mm) and the Pentax-DA Zoom 26mm-45mm F4 ED AL.

The *ist D is expected to ship this September for about $1,700. For more information, visit
