Parents defend ex-Ala. prof in brother's shooting

Parents of Ala. university shooting suspect say her brother's 1986 death in Mass. was accident By The Associated Press

BOSTON (AP) ' The parents of an Alabama professor accused of shooting three of her colleagues to death in 2010 say she was a well-adjusted, "family-oriented" girl growing up and didn't deliberately kill her brother in Massachusetts in 1986.

The testimony of Amy Bishop's parents came during a closed inquest after the Alabama shootings. Massachusetts authorities convened the inquest to look at the shooting death of Seth Bishop after Amy Bishop was charged in the February 2010 killings at the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

Bishop has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the Alabama charges.

In a redacted transcript released late Monday, Bishop's parents say she shot her brother accidentally while trying to unload her father's shotgun in Braintree.

Amy Bishop was indicted for murder in June 2010 in her brother's death.
