Paragon Software Introduces NTFS for Windows CE, Providing Mobile and Embedded Devices With Full Access to NTFS Storage

New Universal File System Driver Eliminates the 4GB Barrier and Delivers High Performance File Transfer Rates -- Both Critical for HD Video Playback (January 27, 2010)

IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/27/10 -- Paragon Software Group (PSG), the technology leader in innovative mobile device and embedded system solutions, today announced the release of Paragon NTFS for Windows® CE to tackle the incompatibilities of Windows CE-based multimedia systems with NTFS-formatted portable storage devices. The announcement is in concert with Microsoft's® initiative to promote its Windows CE family of products to designers and manufacturers of embedded systems and mobile devices as well as home and automotive multimedia systems.

Paragon NTFS for Windows CE provides a stable, high performance solution to address the growing end-user demand to access a wide range of multimedia and data content from portable storage devices. From entertainment systems to GPS navigators, mobile phones/smart handheld devices and other portable products, Paragon NTFS for Windows CE was developed to allow such Windows CE-based devices to access stored content that otherwise would not have been possible with the previous standard FAT32 file system, which capped file size at 4GB -- not enough storage to hold a single movie, let alone one of high-definition video or Blu-ray quality.

With its deep focus on cross-platform technologies for operating systems and embedded kernels, Paragon is recognized as the first software developer to provide full read/write access between incompatible file systems. According to Tom Fedro, president, Paragon Software Group, "There is no question that the popularity of Windows CE devices is growing; however file system incompatibility can be a pacing issue for a wide range of consumer products. Delivering support for NTFS under Windows CE bridges this gap, and our technology will become a catalyst for unleashing a whole new range of applications."

The new NTFS for Windows CE is based on Paragon's unique Universal File System Driver (UFSD) technology, which was specially developed to provide full high performance access (read/write, format, etc.) to volumes of the most popular file systems (NTFS, FAT, Ext2/3FS, etc.) under various platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux, DOS, etc.) where these file systems normally are not supported. NTFS for Windows CE allows silicon chip designers and manufacturers of automotive and home multimedia centers, as well as other mobile and embedded devices, to make their products more user-friendly and meet the market demand for high performance access to large data files, such as HD video.

"Paragon's 15-years of expertise in cross-platform support of NTFS and other file systems has been proven with millions of installations around the world," says Fedro. "We like to think of ourselves as problem solvers, and ensuring platform independence through file system compatibility is a core competency that has earned us valuable customer partnerships. Our technology also fulfills the need for performance -- and high performance is absolutely critical for applications that require high-definition video playback."

Key Features include:

-- Full read/write access: Existing files can be read, modified or deleted, while new files can be created or copied. -- Easy to use: Mount any NTFS partition like a native one -- no need to perform special commands to get access. -- Non-Roman characters and languages: File and folder names in national languages, including Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Russian. -- No system degradation during data transfers. -- No limitation to maximum file/partition size.
